Dear Friends,
Recent weather updates by private individual weather enthusiasts claim that there’s going to be heavy rain from January 6th to January 9th 2024 in the Kongu area.
For Tirupur, we are yet to receive any such alerts from the District Magistrate; however, considering the recent havoc caused by rains in Chennai & South Districts, we can act proactively and safe guard our business interests.
Being proactive is nothing wrong, and let’s follow and explore the points below. The suggestions below pertain to industry, and some points may also apply to residence
- Check with your district administration the map of low-lying areas and cross-validate your supplier or factory locations in those low-lying areas. If you identify any of your suppliers there, inform them and alert them immediately. I request associations to work with the DM and Revenue departments to collect these maps and make them readily available to stakeholders. Consider this our compliance activity as part of our disaster management and risk mitigation plans.
- Check for your Factory Roof area for Open Leakage
- Check that your roof drain gutter is not blocked with dust and leaves. Clean it immediately.
- Your gutter drain is properly piped, or at least check that there is no hindrance in its way to the drainage, charge, or discharge spot.
- Check if the drainage near your facility has no blockage and get it fixed with the support of the sanitary department of the municipal corporation.
- In your home or factory, ensure the UPS battery is placed above floor level.
- Ensure the rain discharge or drain line is not near the EB main panel, electrical panel, or switches.
- Ensure there is no water logging or material stored near the electrical panels.
- Ensure the diesel generator fuel is stored in a safe location and away from rainwater exposure.
- Make sure your hazardous wastes (oil, sludge, etc.) are properly stored and have no exposure to water.
- Make sure your e-waste, especially the discarded batteries, cables, or electronic parts, is not exposed to open space.
- We can afford losses due to material damage, but we cannot afford environmental damage due to our improper storage of waste scraps.
- Make sure that your entire facility has undergone proper earthing. Especially if your walls are dampened, be cautious.
- Ensure your inward and finished goods materials are placed above floor level and have proper coverings. If your facility, especially the job-working units, is in a low-lying area, alert the supplier and store your raw materials properly in a safe manner.
- Similarly, alert your suppliers to be aware of the rain and prepare them well in advance.
- Ensure your drain water is not getting mixed with the Drinking water
- If your facility is in a low-lying area, make some arrangements, such as a sandbag, tire air tube, or blockade using sheets, to prevent water from entering your premises.
- Inform your vehicle drivers to be alert about the routes and potholes so that delivery vehicles won’t get stuck in potholes during rains.
- Avoid deliveries during the rain and better inform your team properly with justifications. Nothing is going to get changed in 3 hours, but if your vehicle gets stuck or goods get damaged, that hurts our business badly.
- Arrange a team of resources for emergency response and also draft a clear “What to Do?” in case of emergency. Contact numbers, Support teams Etc.
Let us be prepared and avoid damage to our facility and supply chain.
